Embellish Me

A beaded knit pendant bag

This is a very simple basic pendant bag for the beginner. I gave it the name Embellish Me because it is so simple that it begs to be embellished in some way. You could add fringe, silk flowers, a charm, antique buttons, or whatever strikes your fancy. Let your imagination run wild.

Finished Size: Approximately 2 inches wide by 2 inches long.

Materials: 1 ball of size 8 perle cotton, about 5 grams size 11 seed beads (3 strands of Czech size 11 seed beads), a strap of your choice.

Tools: Size 0000 knitting needles, tapestry needle.

Gauge: Not important, but I got 10 sts with beads per inch

Abbreviations: K = Knit, sl1b = slip 1 bead up to the needle so it will lie between the stitches, st(s) = stitch(es)

String or transfer 2 yards of beads onto the perle cotton.
Cast on 21 sts.
Row 1: Right side facing you--Knit all sts.
Row 2: Wrong side facing you--Slip first stitch purlwise, *K1, sl1b. Repeat from * across ending with K2.
Row 3: Slip first stitch purlwise, knit across.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until piece measures 2 inches from cast on edge. Mark each edge with a piece of thread. This is the bottom of the bag.

Continue repeating rows 2 and 3 until piece measures 4 inches from cast on edge.
Bind off.

Finishing: Fold the bag in half at the markers, with wrong sides together. With the tapestry needle and a strand of pearl cotton, weave side seams. Attach strap of your choice.

I am new to beadknitting, but your pattern certainly seems straightforward and well-written to me. I look forward to seeing more of your blogging in the future!

I am transiting from knitting to beading...haven't tried this kind yet...is there something to getting the bead down into the stitch? seen it before in books...might be helpful here...I'm thrilled to see your blog...since I've already cut my teeth on knitblogs and have been considering doing a blog! why do you want a shopping cart instead of etsY?

Phunkette asked a couple questions. I'm going to try and answer them.

>>>is there something to getting the bead down into the stitch?<<<

You string the beads onto the thread before you begin knitting, and you slip the beads so they are between the stitches.

>>>why do you want a shopping cart instead of etsY? <<<

Don't know if I do yet. Etsy is a possibility. Depends on what I find out in my research.

Dear Linda, this is gorgeous!! I don't see very well, after 4 eye surgeries so do you think this is able to be made with larger beads? How do I determine size of bead?
I think your projects are lovely.
thank you,
grace

Thank you for the lovely pattern! I don't want you to take this the wrong way but I found your new coloring scheme difficult to read. I hope you have a happy and safe 4th!
